Our History

Birmingham Office

P&S was founded in May, 2004, by Robert L. Pike, Jr. and Scott A. Smith with the acquisition of the assets of an existing flatbed operation consisting of about 20 owner operators and 35 trailers, and commenced operations on June 1, 2004. During the first three years of operations, the Company has grown to a fleet consisting of over 350 power units made up of 275 company owned tractors and 75 owner operators, and 425 platform trailers.

What We Do

P&S is based in Alabama in company-owned facilities located in the Ensley area of Birmingham. The facility consists of the general offices, terminal yard with fuel storage and warehouse facilities, including driver accommodations. P&S specializes in flatbed traffic, primarily in lanes between the Southeast, the Northeast, Texas, California and the Midwest. All equipment is kept in extremely tight traffic lanes incurring a minimum number of empty miles. The vast majority of the freight is driver friendly and most of the loads are preloaded in the terminal area.

Driver Requirements

Birmingham Office

Requirements to drive or to lease with the P&S fleet includes a minimum of 2 years driving experience, good driving record, and, a minimum of 23 years of age. Any lease tractor must be no more than five years in age and trailers leases are discouraged. Because of the extremely tough customer requirements for on-time deliveries, P&S is only interested in those drivers and lease operators who are well disciplined in the three “areas”, ie:

(1) are willing to work extremely hard and (2) are dependable in terms of pickup and delivery, and (3) are willing to run productively every week in a safe manner. For the proven drivers that wish to become a lease operator, P&S has a lease purchase program whereby company-owned tractors are leased to the driver for no “up front cash” on very favorable terms.
